Not a film about Surrealism – though it does reference various surrealists – but an actual surreal film. Jonathan Meades with the help of a very decrepit Alice from Alice In Wonderland goes in search of his lost weight. When it went out no one could make any sense of it but that was partly the point. It was finished just as 9/11 took place and was heavily censored by the BBC because we had a sequence of balaclaved Irish ‘freedom fighters’ doing a dance routine to the tune of YMCA but with the lyrics of INLA. One day the sequence will see the light of day.
